KUANTAN: The 14th Pahang State Legislative assembly has been dissolved effective today to enable the state election to be held simultaneously with the 15th general election (GE15).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the Regent of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah had given his consent to dissolve the Pahang assembly.
"I was granted an audience by the Regent on Wednesday (Oct 12). The document had been handed to Pahang Speaker (Datuk Seri Ishak Muhammad) yesterday evening(to hand to the Election Commission)," he said when announcing the dissolution of the state assembly at Wisma Sri Pahang here today.
Earlier yesterday, Wan Rosdy said the status of the Pahang State Legislative Assembly will be made known only after the state's budget is approved. The budget was approved during the last day of the sitting at noon yesterday.
In the last general election, BN contested all 42 state seats in Pahang, winning 25 (Umno 24, MCA one), while Pas won eight, DAP won seven and PKR secured two seats.
The Perlis state assembly was also officially dissolved today to make way for GE15.
In the previous general election in 2018, Barisan Nasional retained the state after winning 10 state seats while PKR won three seats followed by Pas with two seats.
On Oct 11, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced Parliament's dissolution to pave the way for the GE15.
He called on all states, aside from Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor, to dissolve their respective state legislative assemblies so a nationwide general election could be held on the same date.
