Perak PN yet to decide on MB candidate

IPOH: Perak Perikatan Nasional (PN) has yet to decide on its menteri besar candidate in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Its secretary, Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, today said: "We have yet to discuss this issue but I am confident that the party's leadership will decide soon.

"As far as I can remember, once the nomination is done, there will be an announcement by the state and top leadership, probably about the menteri besar candidate or election manifesto."

It was reported today that former Public Services Department deputy director-general Datuk Zainal Azman Abu Seman had been named Pakatan Harapan's Perak menteri besar candidate.

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said Zainal Azman, who will contest the Kuala Sepetang state seat, had extensive experience as a government official.

For Barisan Nasional (BN), chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said Perak BN chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad would be re-appointed menteri besar should the coalition retain the state.

Zahid, the incumbent Bagan Datuk member of parliament, said Saarani had a stellar performance when leading the state administration.

"We will seek consent from Tuanku (Sultan Nazrin Muizzin Shah) to reappoint Saarani as menteri besar.

"He is among the best menteris besar we have," he had said at a programme at the Bagan Datuk Umno Division Complex on Oct 17.

Meanwhile, Zainol Fadzi announced that several candidates for the state seats had changed.

Noor Azman Ghazali will now be fielded in Alor Pongsu and Sallehuddin Abdullah will contest Selinsing.

Meanwhile, S. Navinten will contest Jelapang, replacing M. Kalidass.

Ahmad Faisal Mansor will contest Pengkalan Baharu and Sharifah Aemeera Najwa Syed Mohamed will contest Malim Nawar.
