GE15: EC says no to mobile phones during polls

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) has indicated through infographics released recently that the use of mobile phones inside polling stations will not be allowed for the coming General Election (GE15) .

The infographic, which was shared and uploaded on the commission's social media platforms, highlighted 10 key steps that voters must adhere to when casting their vote on polling day on Nov 19.

The sixth step of the infographics indicates that mobile phones are not allowed, as voters will be required to hand over their mobile phones to the officers on duty when they take the ballot papers to cast their vote.

After casting their vote, voters will go back to the officers on duty to collect their mobile phones on their way out of the polling centre.

Last month, Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had called on the EC to ban mobile phones from polling centres, as a means to safeguard voter's rights and privacy and to deter corruption.

He had said some political parties were paying voters to cast their ballots for them, provided they were given photographic proof.
