KUALA LUMPUR: Around 118,000 police in the country will cast their votes in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said that for officers in Bukit Aman, 6,423 will vote early.
There are a total of 7,934 voters from Bukit Aman, including the 1,511 postal voters.
"As per checks at 970 channels in 661 voting centres, the observers said that the early voting today is the most systematic and is going on smoothly," he said after casting his ballot at Dewan Badminton Perkep here today.
In Bukit Aman, two voting centres were opened at 8am, with 15 channels. They are expected to close by 5pm.
He arrived at 10.10am and finished voting by 10.20am.
Senior officials including Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Ayub Khan Mydin Pitchay and Internal Security and Public Order Department director, Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali have also cast their votes earlier.
Acryl Sani also said that the police will beef up its personnel given the expected increase in traffic since people will be returning to their hometowns to vote.
He said that his officers will utilise their experience in managing heavy traffic.
He said that they are expecting road users to steadily build up as early as Thursday.
He reminded people to remain cautious while traveling.
"Let us do our part to minimise unwanted incidents such as accidents when going back.
"Do come out to vote, your safety is our responsibility," he added.
Meanwhile, he also said that the number of cases involving vandalism of candidate posters and banners are smaller compared to previous elections.
Despite that, he assured that the police will conduct fair and thorough investigations over the reported cases.
