PUTRAJAYA: It has been a disastrous outing for Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) after official results showed that the party chairman himself lost heavily in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad lost the Langkawi seat, managing to secure only 4,566 votes. Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah garnered 25,463 votes, winning with a majority of 3,446 votes.
The press conference which was initially planned was cancelled and a press statement after a post-mortem will be issued later in the morning.
There was almost pin-drop silence at the Perdana Leadership Foundation as Dr Mahathir walked past the group of pressmen and only smiled at them. The party's supporters and other candidates were visibly disappointed over the loss.
Unofficial results also showed that Pejuang was not leading in any of the 115 seats contested by the party.
