KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has reached a consensus to not be part of a unity government which is led by Perikatan Nasional (PN).
This would mean that Umno is willing to form a unity government with Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the decision comes after reviewing the meetings it had with both PH and PN recently.
"The (Umno) supreme council unanimously agreed to uphold the decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for Barisan Nasional to support and be part of a unity government, (and we have decided that this would be one) which is not led by PN, to ensure a stable and prosperous government can be formed.
"The supreme council also agreed that all party representatives who won seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) have to obey and accept any form of unity government and other forms of government, which will be consented to by Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said in a statement today.
He also said the supreme council supports Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to continue leading Barisan Nasional (BN) and also unanimously supports him as the Umno president.
