KUALA LUMPUR: Parit Sulong member of parliament Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad has retained her Umno Wanita chief post, defeating Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Unofficial results showed that Noraini, who is the former higher education minister, had secured votes from 106 divisions in a straight fight with her predecessor, Shahrizat, to remain the Wanita chief for the 2023-2026 term.
According to the official tally on Umno Online, Noraini was leading with 48 votes against Shahrizat's 31 votes.
This election was supposed to have marked Shahrizat's return to active politics following her retirement after the 2018 General Election.
