PN seat negotiations completed, ready to defend and conquer 6 states

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has concluded its seat allocations for the upcoming state elections.

Its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said they would contest in all 245 seats in the six states, with the intention to defend the three state governments and conquer the remaining three being held by the opposition party.

Pas will have the lion share of the seats with 126 seats followed by 83 seats for Bersatu and 36 seats for Gerakan.

Muhyiddin said the non-incumbent seats from PN would see Bersatu contesting at 64 seats, Pas at 50 seats and Gerakan at 36.

"The machinery at state level is ready and committed to defend the three state governments — Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, and conquer three other states — Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.

"PN is committed to uphold the supremacy of the constitution, defend the people's welfare and drive economic progress with the formation of a concerned, clean and stable government," he said after the party's Presidential Council meeting here today.

Speaking about the candidates, he said the majority of the incumbents could be contesting again to defend their seats.

The candidates will be nominated by the party and will go through a selection and screening process of the police, Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Insolvency Department lists.

"For the use of the logo, we will maintain it as before.

"Kelantan and Terengganu will use the Pas logo, unless the Pas leadership wants to use the PN logo.

"The rest will use the PN logo," he added.

Also present were opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, and Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai.

Muhyiddin also said that the upcoming election would be particularly challenging due to the recent freezing of Bersatu's bank accounts by the authorities.

He acknowledged that parties needed resources to ensure that their machinery functioned smoothly.

"Party leaders understand the situation and are willing to work hard and undertake the responsibility, including bearing some of the costs to minimise the burden of the party, especially Bersatu.

"We will put all our efforts and share resources to make sure that we will win in this electios," he added.
