Anwar: Tun M's predictions are just wishful thinking

DUNGUN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's prediction for Perikatan Nasional (PN) to win "5-1" in the state polls as wishful thinking.

Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said he was confident the collaboration between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) will create a surprising win in the Aug 12 state elections.

"He (Dr Mahathir) thinks they (PN) will win 5-1, and that's his assumption or expectation. When he contested in Langkawi (in the 15th General Election), he said he could win big, but in the end, when the results were announced, he lost his deposit.

"Now, he says they will win 5-1. Learn from experience. When he says there will be a big win, it means losing the deposit.

"God willing, we will see a big surprise happen in the state elections this time," Anwar said at the launch of Terengganu's Desa Sentuhan Kasih programme at the Al Muktafi Billah Shah City Sports Complex here today

said.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Said.

When speaking at the 13th Social Entrepreneur Day Assembly in Langkawi today, Dr Mahathir said Perikatan Nasional could easily win 5-1 in the upcoming elections in six states.

He said the coalition had a bright future in taking control of five state legislative assemblies, including Kelantan, Terenganu, Kedah, Selangor and Negri Sembilan. However, he said PN cannot penetrate Penang.

Dr Mahathir said his prediction was made based on sentiments among elderly voters, particularly Malays in rural areas.
