Selangor polls: Three-cornered battle in Gombak Setia state seat

KUALA LUMPUR: The battle lines in the Gombak Setia state seat have been confirmed for the Selangor state election.

The constituency will see a three-cornered fight between Barisan Nasional's Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, former assemblyman Hilman Idham from Perikatan Nasional and independent candidate Mohamed Salim Mohamed Ali.

Earlier, Gombak Setia returning officer, Mohd Hasrul Hisham Abdullah announced that no nomination forms for the three candidates were rejected.

He added that the nomination centre was pleased with the nomination process, which ended at 10am.

Hilman submitted his nomination paper at 9.03am, Salim at 9.08am and Megat Zulkarnain at 9.14am.

A total of 55,461 people are set to cast their votes at the constituency.

In the 2018 state election, the constituency was won by Hilman, who had contested under the PKR banner before defecting to PN.

The former political secretary to Datuk Seri Azmin Ali secured victory with 12,399 majority votes and defeated Megat Zulkarnain who gained 11,113 votes and Pas' Hasbullah Mohd Ridzwan, who received 11,758.

Hilman, who was also the former PKR Youth deputy chief, was expelled from the party in 2020.
