KUALA LUMPUR: With the Selangor state election in full swing, voters have begun arriving at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Semenyih polling centre to exercise their democratic rights.
Among the early voters was 71-year-old Salimin Miskul, who overcame mobility challenges with the assistance of a wheelchair provided by the Election Commission (EC).
This effort by the EC aims to ensure that senior citizens and individuals with disabilities can seamlessly participate in the voting process.
Salimin said he was happy with the facilities provided for senior citizens.
"The entire process, from my arrival to casting my vote, was seamless, and the staff displayed exceptional helpfulness," he said when met shortly after casting his ballot.
Meanwhile, the polling centre supervisor Mohamad Abdul Latif Abdul Majid said voters had begun arriving as early as 7.30am, despite the voting process only starting at 8am.
A total of 5,725 voters will cast their votes today at the polling centre, which has nine voting channels.
Semenyih state seat is set to see a straight fight between Hulu Langat Umno Wanita chief Wan Zulaika Anua and Selangor Pas information chief Nushi Mahfodz.
Dusun Tua state seat candidate from Barisan Nasional Datuk Johan Abd Aziz is expected to cast his vote at the polling centre at 10.30am.
In Dusun Tua, Johan is up against Azhar Hambali from PN and Al Hafiz Ikhwan Mohamad Asaad from Muda.
