Umno Youth chief to Tony Pua: "See you in court"

KUALA LUMPUR: A verbal spat in social media between two leaders from parties in the unity government over the Federal Territories Pardons Board's decision yesterday is escalating into a legal battle.

This was after Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh planned to lodge a police report against senior DAP leader Tony Pua over the board's decision to reduce Datuk Seri Najib Razak's sentence.

"Insyallah (God Willing), Umno Youth will lodge a police report against Tony Pua for disrespecting the decision made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," wrote the Merlimau state assemblyman on his Facebook page.

Akmal, the chairman of the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security committee, did not hold back when he told Pua to "See u (you) in court..." in the same social media posting.

The post was accompanied by screenshots of Pua's social media posting, which is believed to refer to the board's decision in Najib's SRC International case.

Pua shared a series of cryptic messages on his Facebook account yesterday after the board announced its decision to reduce Najib's jail sentence by 50 per cent and slashed his fine from RM50 million to RM210 million.

"I beg your pardon?" wrote the former Damansara member of Parliament.

In a separate posting on the same social media platform, Pua wrote: "Can someone send me to jail for one year and, in exchange, pay me RM50 mil (million)? Pretty please?"

Although Pua did not explicitly refer to individuals or groups in particular, the social media postings came about after the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced its decision on Najib's application.
