Report lodged on Tony Pua will not cause 'turmoil' in unity government, says Umno sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno's decision to lodge a police report against senior DAP leader Tony Pua will not cause any turmoil in the unity government, party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said.

Umno, said Asyraf, would continue to lodge a report after Pua's social media posting on his Facebook account, questioning the decision made by the Federal Territories Pardons Board with regards on Datuk Seri Najib Razak's SRC International case.

"(Pua's) comment is a personal opinion. What is important is that we will continue to lodge a police report," he told reporters after the Umno special meeting with division chiefs.

Pua shared a series of cryptic messages on his Facebook account after the board announced its decision to reduce Najib's jail sentence by 50 per cent and slashed his fine from RM50 million to RM210 million.

"I beg your pardon?" wrote the former Damansara member of Parliament.

In a separate posting on the same social media platform, Pua wrote: "Can someone send me to jail for one year and, in exchange, pay me RM50 mil (million)? Pretty please?"

Although Pua did not explicitly refer to individuals or groups in particular, the social media postings came about after the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced its decision on Najib's application.

Following that, Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh said he planned to lodge a police report against Pua for disrespecting the decision made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Umno vice president Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had also called for Pua to issue an apology and delete all his social media posts or face legal action.

At the same time, Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Adam has urged the Home Ministry and police to take action against Pua under the Sedition Act for allegedly disrespecting the Pardon's Board decision.

Separately, Kedah Umno information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin called on DAP to take stern action against Pua for committing treason against Yang di-Pertuan Agong by questioning the board's decision.

Najib was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined RM210 million after being found guilty of abuse of power, breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
