Who is Razali to tell me to resign, Labuan MP retorts

KUALA LUMPUR: The Labuan member of parliament vowed today he would not give in to demands that he resign from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) for supporting the unity government.

"Who is he to tell me this? And why should I submit to his demands?" said Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

"Let us wait for the court process (since Bersatu plans to initiate legal action). Let the court determine our fate (in the party). We will abide by or appeal against the decision of the court," he told the 'New Straits Times'.

Suhaili was responding to Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris's statement this morning.

Razali had doubled down on the calls made by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for Suhaili and five other lawmakers — who also declared their support for the unity government — to resign from the party.

"I want to challenge them to resign from the party and relinquish their parliamentary seat before they are expelled when we amend our Constitution during our special general assembly on March 2," Razali said.

The five other MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar).

When contacted, Syed Abu Hussin described Razali's demand as "a waste of time".

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin previously confirmed the party had appointed lawyers to sue the six MPs.
