NIBONG TEBAL: Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Sungai Bakap by-election, Abidin Ismail, today said the late assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff, had previously raised the water supply interruption issue in the area at the state legislative assembly.
He said, as Nor Zamri's special assistant, he had helped the late Pas man in drafting the question for the state legislative assembly session.
"That was in November last year. If you doubt it, then you can refer to the Abang Abidin TikTok page. It's all there.
"Abang Zam (Nor Zamri) had raised the issue as it had been longstanding. And I will take it from where he left off," he said.
He was asked on claims that Nor Zamri had no solution to the water issue as the assemblyman previously.
Voters had often lamented to Abidin about the water shortage issue in their area.
Abidin was met during a walkabout to meet traders at Bandar Tasek Mutiara, Simpang Ampat, here, this afternoon.
He said, if voted in as the new assemblyman in Saturday's by-election, he and PN would serve as a check-and-balance to the government.
"As the opposition, we will push the government to act and for answers," he added.
Meanwhile, Abidin said campaigning, which entered its 10th day today, had been encouraging with positive response from a diverse range of voters.
He said the usual issues raised included high water tariff, the diesel subsidy rationalisation and soaring cost of living.
"They (the voters) have said that they would vote in protest," he said.
Abidin also said that he would unveil his manifesto tomorrow.
Abidin is engaged in a straight fight with Pakatan Harapan's Dr Joohari Ariffin for the Sungai Bakap state seat.
