KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has hit out at critics accusing him of being an agent of Perikatan Nasional.
In his policy speech at the Umno Youth delegates' meeting here today, Dr Akmal said he will continue to speak against others including Umno allies in the unity government if they interfere with matters related to Malay rights, Islam, and the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers.
"You can see how many times we have argued with our 'neighbours' (Umno's allies in the unity government) to the extent that I was accused of being a PN agent.
"There were also claims that I am championing the voice of PN. Let me remind them that I am a loyal party member.
"There were also those who said that I am not 'teamwork' material. How to engage in teamwork if you are challenging our stance?" he said to loud applause from delegates attending the delegates' meeting.
Among the special guests who attended the meeting were Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and party vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
"To our president, Umno Youth is not a PN agent. We are loyal and care for the party.
"We celebrate differences in opinions but that will not affect our loyalty to the party.
"I have said this last year and I will repeat the same thing this year. Umno Youth can be friends with anyone.
"If you touch on the sensitivity of our religion, race, or the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers, we will rise and fight you until the end."
