KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today told party leaders and members to prioritise the next general election (GE16) ahead of party polls.
"The party election is far away. Let's win the elections first and then form the government," Zahid said in his speech at the Umno General Assembly.
Umno is slated to hold its next party polls in 2026, while GE16 must be held in 2027.
"Let us work together to strengthen the party," he said.
He then pointed to Umno's top leaders on stage and said, "I told them this during my briefing yesterday.
"I said that they would not be here if not for the support from the people below (party grassroots)," he said.
Zahid also reminded the delegates not to fall for slander or let Umno's foes divide the party..
"It is up to us to strengthen our party. As such, let's put our differences aside. If there is a problem at the branch level, please settle it amicably at the branch level.
"If there is any problem at the divisional level, please resolve it among all of you at the divisional level. The same applies to the Supreme Council," he said.
