KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional will hold a special briefing on Sept 9 on the obligations set in the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for allocations for opposition members of parliament.
PN chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the briefing for all opposition MPs would be held in Kuala Lumpur.
He said any decision on whether to accept the obligations in the draft would only be known after the briefing.
"I have discussed this with opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and after going through the seven obligations set in the draft MoU, we have decided to hold the briefing for all the opposition MPs.
"We will only decide whether to accept all or part of the obligations after the briefing. The opposition leader will be the one who will deliver the decision to the government," he said.
The Kota Baru MP said this reporters after the launch of the Kota Baru Half Marathon (KBHM) here today.
On the statement by Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil that the draft MoU should not be discussed in the media, Takiyuddin said the topic was not a threat to national security.
"It is not an issue (to discuss the draft in media) and we (PN) have the right to discuss this.
"I only tell the media what has been given to us (the draft MoU)," he added.
Fahmi had said earlier today the draft MoU for allocations for the opposition was not final and can be discussed.
He said if the opposition followed what they did before and discussed it with them there would be no problems, adding that this was the correct forum to do so.
Yesterday, Takiyuddin had said the obligations included that opposition MPs support the government until the end of the 15th parliamentary term.
He had also said one of the terms would be for opposition MPs to declare the assets and that they comply with 3R (race, religion and royalty) restrictions.
However, Takiyuddin did not disclose the other terms.
