Pas delegate calls out leaders for shaking hands with women, participating in karaoke sessions

TEMERLOH: A Pas delegate today expressed his disappointment with the quality of some of the Islamic party leaders, whom he described as deteriorating.

Dr Mohd Saifizi Saidon from Perlis alleged that Pas leaders were seen greeting women with handshakes on several occasions, but no action was taken.

He said the party's ulama (religious scholars) defended some leaders who took part in karaoke sessions.

"Looking back at history, politicians like Hashim Gera (a former member of parliament) had his membership suspended only because he was dancing (berjoget).

"This proves how important it was for the party to safeguard the quality of its leaders, but it's no longer (the same) today.

"Pas today seems to be straying away... some leaders engaged in karaoke; and sadly, (there are) leaders who shake hands with women, but no action was taken," he said when debating the Presidential policy address at Pas' 70th Muktamar here in Kerdau today.

Meanwhile, Saifizi also highlighted the alleged power abuse involving Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli and his son, which he described as painting a negative picture of the party.

He said that, until today, Perlis Pas has yet to receive any reports or discuss the matter.

Saifizi also rebuked the party for failing to prepare a proper manual to serve as guidance despite the Islamic party helming four states.

On May 23, Perlis Menteri Besar's son Mohd Syafeeq, 35, was charged at the Kangar Sessions Court with submitting false claims of RM19,000 for the supply of drinks for the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.
