JOHOR BARU: The Mahkota by-election is a battleground that could shape the future of Kluang, Johor, and the country, said state DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong.
Each vote for Barisan Nasional's Mahkota by-election candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah is akin to backing Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he said.
"BN's Syed Hussien, the unity government's coalition party candidate is a native of Kluang. Each vote for Syed Hussien is a vote for a capable and responsible leader deeply familiar with local issues.
"If elected, he is committed to driving development in the district as the Mahkota assemblyman," Liew posted on Facebook.
He said Onn Hafiz's focus on economic reform is a cornerstone of the by-election.
The menteri besar's efforts, particularly the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, are aimed at propelling Johor's economy forward.
Liew said a vote for Syed Hussien is also a vote for Onn Hafiz's economic agenda, which promises to bring further prosperity to the state.
Liew said the third key leader is Anwar, head of the unity government, whose focus is on rebuilding Malaysia's economy.
He said that if voters supporting Syed Hussien, it will be a show of support for Anwar's ongoing economic recovery efforts and a stand against the opposition which is seeking to undermine the government.
"On Sept 28, a vote for Syed Hussien represents not just support for a local candidate but for the leadership of Onn Hafiz and Anwar, ensuring continued stability, growth, and prosperity for Kluang, Johor, and the nation."
The Mahkota by-election in Kluang, is a straight contest between Syed Hussein, 40, and Perikatan Nasional's Mohammad Haizan Jaafar, 61, also known as Coach Haizan.
