BN aims to contest 5 FT seats in GE 16

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) targets to contest in five Federal Territories seats in the 16th General Election, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

While the BN chairman did not reveal the five seats, he said among the seats, included Titiwangsa, Putrajaya and Labuan.

For the record, there are 13 parliamentary seats in the Federal Territories.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) currently holds 10 seats namely in Kepong, Batu, Wangsa Maju, Segambut, Setiawangsa, Bukit Bintang, Lembah Pantai, Seputeh, Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak.

Perikatan Nasional has two seats — Putrajaya and Labuan.

Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani is BN's sole member of parliament (MP) in Titiwangsa.

"The Federal Territories must be 'cleansed' (diputihkan). We will negotiate carefully and Insya-Allah we will contest in five seats," he said at the Federal Territories BN convention here, today.

Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister and Umno president, said BN must make a comeback and become the dominant party in the government.

He said it was "divine intervention" that BN was able to form a government by cooperating with Pakatan Harapan, after GE15.

"In politics, 99 per cent is political effort, one per cent we leave to God.

"BN's 30 MPs combined with PH's 82, we managed to get 112, just enough for a simple majority. This is what we call divine intervention."

He said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim swore in as Prime Minister on Nov 21, 2022, and the next day Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor came to see Anwar pledged their support for his government.

"After that, Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal came, two more independent MPs came and Muar MP came, making a total of 148 MP, or two-thirds majority in Parliament.

"Once more, this is divine intervention, the will of Allah.

"I am telling you this to remind us all that we in BN, either Umno, MCA, MIC or PBRS, to stop creating internal problems. We must unite.

"We must become dominant once more in the next elections and win big. Forget all our problems and frustrations, and unite."
