Federal Territories BN passes six resolutions, focus on urban dominance

KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Barisan Nasional (BN) passed six resolutions at its convention today, including a plan for urban political dominance.

At the top of the list of resolutions was Federal Territories BN's support for the formation of the unity government, as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to ensure political stability following the hung parliament in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The other resolutions focused on support for the unity government, BN cabinet representation, strengthening unity within the coalition, commitment to collaboration, and BN quotas for senators.

"Federal Territories BN supports BN members of Parliament joining the unity government cabinet to ensure BN's core principles are reflected in policy-making, allowing the party to rebuild its strength and address internal weaknesses.

"Federal Territories BN aims to enhance ties among coalition parties (Umno, MCA, MIC, and PBRS) to ensure continued policies for multiracial welfare and economic prosperity."

The coalition also said despite losing 12 seats in the last election, it was committed to collaborating with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the unity government.

They said to ensure that the collaboration had the trust of BN members and the public, Federal Territories BN must be empowered and given the opportunity for equal seat distribution negotiations for GE16, including in Perikatan Nasional-held seats such as Putrajaya and Labuan.

On senate representation, they urge that two senator quotas for Kuala Lumpur, and one each for Putrajaya and Labuan, be retained for BN leaders.

This, they said, was to uphold the image of a genuine cooperation between BN and PH, and because PH already had 10 MPs in the Federal Territories.

Under the resolution for urban political dominance, the party said it would focus on six key areas, namely, affordable housing and financing schemes; job creation in the federal territories; and providing career opportunities that match academic qualifications.

They also aim to elevate the Federal Territories as a hub for small businesses; establish a Federal Territories Youth Policy; and to refine policies for women and single mothers, enabling them access to government assistance programmes.
