SHAH ALAM: PKR has not received any application from Umno Supreme Council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to join the party.
PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said today neither the party's political bureau nor the Central Leadership Council had received any application.
"We'll wait for an application. If there is one, it should be reviewed in discussions with our partners in the unity government.
"This is important to maintain our strength and advance political stability."
He said this after launching a flood aid event for Selangor and Kelantan at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building here.
Amirudin, the Selangor menteri besar, was commenting on speculation about whether PKR had received an application from Tengku Zafrul, the investment, trade, and industry minister.
Yesterday, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed discussions with Tengku Zafrul about the possibility of him joining PKR.
Anwar, who is prime minister, said the discussions were in the preliminary stages.
On Friday, it was reported that intense negotiations were underway regarding the possibility of Tengku Zafrul leaving Umno for PKR.
A source close to the matter said Tengku Zafrul was expected to play a bigger role in Selangor's administration and economic progress.
Meanwhile, Amirudin, who is Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairman, said he could not confirm whom or how many people Tengku Zafrul had met, as discussions were in the early stages.
He said his position as the menteri besar had often been questioned since 2020.
"Many 'fortune tellers' (ahli nujum) predicted that I would not be menteri besar after 2020.
"When the Sheraton Move happened, a lot of them said, 'That's it for you, Amir, you're going to be dropped', and repeated the same call again in 2021.
"When the state election was held in 2023, many said I would be out.
"Alhamdulillah, I remain humble and grateful for the continued trust and mandate from party members.
"So, believing in fortune tellers can lead to syirik (polytheism)."
Amirudin said his meeting with Anwar at the menteri besar's residence last night focused on preparations for the Sabah and Sarawak state polls.
