NST Leader: Israel's UNRWA ban against global morality

ANYTIME Israel bans or denounces individuals, groups, global agencies or nations, it usually means the Zionist state is going against the world's moral stance.

Israel maintains a long list of people and organisations it censures over criticisms against a barbaric regime bent on denying Palestinian statehood by annihilating the inhabitants of the occupied territories.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is the latest world body to fall afoul of Tel Aviv, which has banned the agency from operating in Israel and occupied East Jerusalem.

Israel bases its injunction on suspicion that some UNRWA's Gaza employees were involved in the Oct 7 Hamas attack, never mind that the international body is the main agency providing essential aid and services across Palestinian territories for decades.

Let's make this clear: Israeli bombardments in Gaza is a contemptuous overreaction that is slaughtering Pales tinians. In truth, Israel is adding another chapter to its long history of desecrating Palestinian rights and any associated humanitarianism.

Israel's law-making body, the Knesset, voted 92-10 in passing a bill that out laws the UNRWA following Tel Aviv's prolonged denigrations of the UN body.

Predictably, the pro posed ban triggered clichéd "deep concerns" from Western powers, which is ironic since they are the suppliers of heavy armaments that are blasting Gaza.

Washington has laughably warned it will withhold military assistance if Israel fails to in crease humanitarian aid in Gaza.

We heard such empty rhetoric before. The UNRWA ban comes just 24 hours after South Africa filed a 750-page dossier with the Inter national Court of Justice to substantiate charges against Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip.

South Africa's ICJ case had inspired the UN General Assembly to adopt a resolution on Sept 18 that called for un precedented sanctions against Israel.

As the world heightened its understanding of Israel as a fascist state, conscientious nations launched initiatives to step up aid and recognise a Palestinian state, which Tel Aviv stubbornly rebukes.

The pressing question is: how will the world counteract the UNRWA ban, set to be enforced in less than 90 days? As we understand it, very little in neutralising Israeli rampage.

Look out though for a "sudden" about turn. Israel may rescind the ban, just to make them look "compassionate", if only to soften the South African case. Israel's allies will of course indulge in praises but the world won't fall for this obvious public relations stunt.

Still, if the ban does proceed, more Palestinians will suffer and die, stuck in the middle as Israeli airstrikes across the region escalates, inviting retaliatory measures.
