NST Leader: Netanyahu's deception

BENJAMIN NETANYAHU continues to parade his dangerous deceit, gaslighting the United States Congress to further his self-preservation against a damning corruption indictment back home.

While basking in adulation from a reduced House and Senate attendance, Netanyahu ignored, deflected and downplayed the genocide he unleashed on Palestinians, preferring to blast his critics and protesters as Iran's shills.

As for the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant for his crimes against humanity, neither Netanyahu nor his host gave a damn.

Under Netanyahu's watch, the Israeli Defence Forces' lopsided retaliation against Hamas' attacks last year killed — by bombs, bullets and lynching — 40,000 Palestinians, including 15,000 children, while injuring 90,830, and counting.

About 10,000 are still missing. Devastation across Gaza include property and infrastructural destruction and damage: commercial facilities, school buildings, road networks, places of worship and tragically, 16 out of 35 hospitals are barely functioning.

Every hour, the IDF drops 40 bombs that kills 15, including six children, and injures 35.

Up to July 8, 120 journalists, mostly Palestinians, have been killed in Israel's Gaza assault.

There's no end to Israel's bloodlust while Netanyahu sashayed with impunity inside Congress.

Still, there is a little turnaround: many Democrat congressmen and senators, some Jewish, staged historic boycotts of Netanyahu's address, tellingly led by US vice-president and presumptive Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Democrat critics who did attend protested by flashing anti-Netanyahu signboards or reading books.

Still, it's uncertain if Harris, if she wins the US presidency on Nov 5, will mobilise meaningful policies that discontinues or pare down Israeli military aid.

Another turnaround: the Keir Starmer-led British Government stunningly withdrew their predecessor's challenge of the ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu, infuriating Israel and irritating the Americans.

Now, another flashpoint: last Saturday, a rocket hit a football field in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, killing children and wounding others.

Naturally, blame was laid squarely on Hizbollah, who denied launching the rocket but it sparked this laughable response from Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz: "There is no doubt that Hizbollah has crossed all the red lines here."

Katz tactlessly excoriated Hizbollah, considering that Israel committed far more atrocious premeditated killings of Palestinians over the decades.

But consider this plausibility: the rocket could easily be manoeuvred as a "false flag", an IDF ruse but conveniently blamed on Hizbollah to deliberately prolong this catastrophe.

For years, Netanyahu manipulated the fiendish option of crippling the Palestinian Authority while financially and economically propping up Hamas.

Netanyahu was reported to have pulled out his reserve forces from the Gazan border days before the Oct 7 massacre, paving the way for the ensuing slaughter because the Israeli "peaceniks" living there were his harsh critics.

Given Netanyahu's atrocities at the expense of innocent Palestinians and Israelis, this diabolical plot to save his hide is plausible.

It's up to Kamala now.
