KUALA LUMPUR: Despite winning his maiden mixed doubles title with Goh Liu Ying at the India International Series last week, Chen Tang Jie believes he is far from a finished product.
The 19-year-old feels he needs to make inroads in developing his game and he hopes to continue progressing in the India International Challenge, which starts tomorrow.
"I feel very lucky to get the chance to partner Liu Ying. I have gained confidence from this experience," said the former world junior championships bronze medalist.
"I have been learning new things with Liu Ying in training. I was nervous in our first tournament together, but I think I carried out my duties well on the court.
"Hopefully, we will once again perform at a high level in the India International Challenge and get a good result."
Tang Jie, who is a former Bukit Jalil Sports School student, rejoined the BA of Malaysia (BAM) from Petaling Jaya Badminton Club last week. He was dropped by BAM in 2013.
Mixed doubles coach Chin Eei Hui is currently pairing up youngsters with senior shuttlers such as Liu Ying on a temporary basis to help the up-and-coming players to progress faster.
Liu Ying will resume her partnership with Chan Peng Soon next year.
Peng Soon is currently playing with Cheah Yee See. The duo won the Russian Open in July.
