KUALA LUMPUR: National women's doubles shuttler Vivian Hoo was clearly disappointed when she and Chow Mei Kuan only managed to finish second at the Vietnam International Challenge, following their defeat to South Korea's Baek Ha Na-Lee Yu Rim in the final today.
According to Vivian, the Malaysian scratch pair shouldn’t feel contented despite reaching the final, in their first tournament together this year.
"I do not think we should be satisfied with this result but at the same time, at least we know what needs to be improved, before the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games next month," said Vivian in Hanoi.
In fact, Vivian wants the disappointment to serve as a motivation for both shuttlers, who are without their regular partners Woon Khe Wei and Lee Meng Yean due to injury - to bounce back stronger at the Commonwealth Games.
"There will not be any tournaments for us after this, except for the Commonwealth Games. Our focus is entirely on the Games, so we need to improve fast," added Vivian, who together with Mei Kuan, went down 21-19, 17-21, 21-17 to the second seeded South Koreans.
When asked about the final, Vivian conceded that Ha Na-Yu Rim, played extremely well, especially with their strong returns.
"Their returns were superb. Of course it was a closely contested match, but in the deciding game, they had a slight edge over us."
In the men's doubles final, the young combination of Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will have to wait for their first senior title, after going down 21-18, 21-14 to Thailand's Maneepong Jongjit-Nanthakarn Yordphaisong.
This is the second time the Malaysians played second fiddle to the Thai duo, after losing to them in the final of the India International Challenge last year.
In the men's singles final, professional shuttler Goh Giap Chin, was also left disappointed, after his impressive run came to an end, following his 21-9, 21-15 defeat to former world No 2 Kento Momota of Japan.
