Shuttler Qi Xuan keeps spirits up in training at ABM

A REPLAY of childhood memories has been keeping shuttler Eoon Qi Xuan entertained during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.

The 20-year-old women's singles has been catching up on cartoon shows like Mickey Mouse and Pink Panther apart from training hard at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

"I have to find ways to keep myself from feeling bored," Qi Xuan told Timesport.

"We are just staying indoors at ABM and it can get really boring.

"I try to spend time chatting with my teammates but I also find time to watch my childhood favourite cartoon shows like Mickey Mouse and Pink Panther.

"I also miss home a lot," added the Taiping-born shuttler, who last saw her family two months ago, when they paid her a visit in Kuala Lumpur.

Qi Xuan, who has been with the national senior squad for two years, will be the woman to beat in the National Junior Ranking (senior vs junior) Challenge which starts today.

Qi Xuan and K. Letshanaa will face two junior players, Myisha Mohd Khairul and Tan Zhing Yi, who finished top of Group A in the junior ranking challenge last month.

"I'm actually excited to play because we haven't had many tournaments to play in during this Covid-19 situation.

"Of course there is pressure on me to perform as the most senior player but I am confident of doing well.

"Hopefully the situation gets better so we can all go back to how things used to be," said Qi Xuan.
