IT was a jittery start for World No 7 Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, but they survived to fight for another round at the All England yesterday.
The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic silver medallists bounced back from a first game blemish to beat Denmark's Mathias Thyrri-Mai Surrow 21-23, 21-15, 21-12 in 63 minutes at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.
"To come back from a game down to win is a good result for us as Thyrri-Mai were ahead by four points in the second game," said Peng Soon.
Liu Ying said: "It was hard to get the 'on-court' feeling again after days of isolation before the tournament.
"Furthermore, there were disruptions to our training schedules, so it was tough for us to get some practice in. We just had to get used to it.
"In the rubber game, we also made tactical changes, and I think we did well even though we made a few more errors towards the end."
Peng Soon-Liu Ying, however, were back on court late yesterday against Thailand's Nipitphon Phuangphuapet-Benyapa Aimsaard in the second round.
Fifth seeds Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai were sent packing in a 21-19, 21-16 defeat to Irish pair Sam Magee-Chloe Magee.
In Wednesday's first-round matches, women's doubles Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah stole the show when they stunned World No 7 Jongkolphan Kititharakul-Rawinda Prajongjai of Thailand 21-17, 23-21.
It was a superb win for the freshly crowned Swiss Open winners as it was also their biggest career scalp to date.
