'What kind of person are you?'

THE racist fan, who made vile remarks against national women's shuttler S. Kisona, has been roundly condemned by the Malaysian sports fraternity.

Following her defeat in the Sudirman Cup semi-finals in Vantaa, Finland, on Saturday, the fan made offensive and hurtful comments against Kisona, 23, on Facebook.

Youth and Sports Minister Ahmad Faizal Azumu, the BA of Malaysia (BAM), Famemas Sports Supporters Club, as well as several coaches and athletes spoke out against the racist attack.

Ahmad Faizal said such behaviour was unacceptable.

"We are made up of Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans and so on. Do not despise others because of race, skin colour or religion, more so those who are fighting to make Malaysia's name famous," he added.

BAM issued an official statement yesterday, declaring: "BAM is utterly appalled by the racist remarks made towards our national women's singles player, S. Kisona.

"As the governing body of the sport in this country, BAM has zero tolerance of any form of racism or discrimination, thus we absolutely condemn the remarks, and we will always stand up for our players.

"Such a dreadful remark is uncalled for, and we urge all Malaysians to condemn this senseless act.

"BAM will continue to fight for the eradication of racism in sports, especially in the realm of badminton.

"We continue to uphold all initiatives that support progressive and inclusive nation-building."

Famemas chairman Lee Hui Seng said: "All Malaysians, regardless of race, must stand up strongly against the global scourge of racism in sports.

"It has no place in sports. The racist remark made against Kisona is totally uncalled for, and should be criticised by all.

"The perpetrator must be punished to prevent similar acts in future. We must fight to eradicate racism in sports as the adage speaks for itself, sport is for all."

Former national doubles coach Rosman Razak also denounced the perpetrator on social media, saying: "What kind of person are you? You're an embarrassment and a disgrace."

On Saturday, Kisona lost 21-7, 21-5 to Japan's world No 5 Akane Yamaguchi in the women's singles of the Sudirman Cup.

Malaysia eventually fell 3-1 to Japan in the inter-team event.
