Be mentally ready to do Justin's job

KUALA LUMPUR: Justin Hoh's Achilles tendon rupture has presented others with a chance to break into the Sea Games squad.

BAM singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann wants the replacement player for Justin to be mentally ready.

Justin was touted as a medal prospect for next month's Phnom Penh Sea Games until he suffered the injury on Monday during training,

BAM have yet to name the men's singles replacement.

The 19-year-old Justin is expected to be out for six to nine months after surgery.

"We still have time to finalise the replacement (for Justin). We need to do a comprehensive analysis, players' evaluation and discuss with coaches before recommending the replacement.

"This is a chance for other players to step up to be a part of the Sea Games squad.

"We will tell them about their responsibilities and they need to be prepared mentally. Whoever gets the chance should be ready to take up the challenge."

The BAM is banking on a youthful squad to deliver the goods in the Sea Games, with Justin (until his injury), Leong Jun Hao and Ong Ken Yon leading the charge in the men's singles.

The 22-year-old Lee Shun Yang, who is on the reserves' list, is expected to fill Justin's place.
