LUCKNOW: Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri stunned second seeds Ben Lane-Sean Vendy to reach the final of the Syed Modi International here on Saturday.
Hon Jian-Haikal, paired up in August following a partnership reshuffle, upset the world No. 23 English pair 21-12, 21-19 in 39 minutes in the semifinals.
It was Hon Jian-Haikal's second win over a higher-ranked pair in the tournament following the shock victory against fourth seeds Mark Lamsfuss-Marvin Seidel of Germany in the second round.
The world No. 93 Malaysians will face Japan's Akira Koga-Taichi Sato in the final today.
The top-seeded Japanese pair defeated Denmark's Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard 18-21, 21-15, 21-16 in the semi-finals.
