KUALA LUMPUR: National men's pair Choong Hon Jian-Haikal Nazri are indeed the real deal.
The world No. 69 proved today that they are no one-hit-wonder when they clinched the Guwahati Masters title in Assam, India.
The Malaysian pair's victory came just a week after they were crowned Syed Modi International champions in Lucknow, India.
In the final at the Sarju Sarai Indoor Sports Complex, Hon Jian-Haikal, who were only paired up in August, beat Taiwan's Lin Bing Wei-Su Ching Heng 21-17, 23-21.
Notably, Hon Jian-Haikal had also reached the final of the Indonesia Masters in October.
Given their fine showing in just over three months, the duo can expect to be given a shot to represent Malaysia at the Asian Team Championships in Selangor in February.
Hon Jian-Haikal pocketed US$7,900 (RM37,000) for their win in Assam.
