KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei doubled the joy for the Malaysian contingent when they became the second combination after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to reach the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.
The world No. 9 fended off a spirited challenge from American duo Vinson Chiu-Jennie Gai to win 21-15, 24-22.
The fans at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena were chanting "USA, USA" during the match to motivate the American pair but the Malaysians maintained their composure to seal the victory.
It was Tang Jie-Ee Wei's second win in as many matches in Group D after triumphing against Singapore's Terry Hee-Jessica Tan in the opener on Saturday.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei are assured of a top-two finish regardless of the outcome of their final fixture with second seeds Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping of China on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Yan Zhe-Dong Ping had also notched their second win by defeating Terry-Jessica 21-13, 21-17.
