Aaron-Wooi Yik show no sign of rustiness in Arctic Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik emerged victorious on their return to the World Tour at the Arctic Open in Finland on Wednesday.

Playing in their first tournament since the Paris Olympics, the world No. 4 overcame China's world No. 21 Chen Bo Yang-Liu Yi 21-18, 21-18 in Vantaa.

The extended break from competition was due to Wooi Yik having to recover from a fractured toe, but they looked like they never left as the former world champions got the job done in straight sets.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will next play the winners of the match between Jiri-Ondrej Kral of the Czech Republic and England's Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.

Meanwhile, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani were made to work for their victory over Denmark's Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard.

Malaysia's world No. 8 struggled to match their opponents' aggressive play, but eventually overcame the world No. 14 Danes 11-21, 23-21, 21-15 in 61 minutes.

They will play Japan's world No. 20 Kenya Mitsuhashi-Hiroki Okamura in the second round.
