KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are hoping to present their fans with the Malaysia Open title on Jan 12.
They debuted in the tournament in 2022 by reaching the quarter-finals as an unseeded pair just one month after teaming up. But this year they fell in the second round.
However, Tang Jie-Ee Wei have raised the bar after reaching the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics and winning the Korean Open this year.
"The Malaysia Open is a very important tournament that will be played at our backyard and the fans will be cheering us on. We want to try and win the title for them," said Ee Wei on Friday.
Meanwhile Tang Jie said that it would be a special occasion to fight for the Malaysia Open title.
"It is always a dream for every Malaysian player to win our prestigious home tournament. So we will work hard and give our best in the tournament," said Tang Jie.
The last local mixed doubles pair to win the Malaysia Open were Teh Kew San and Ng Mei Ling in 1965.
