KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai are counting on their experience as they face China's rising stars Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi in the Malaysia Open quarter-finals at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Friday.
It will mark the fourth clash between the pairs, with the world No. 6 Malaysians triumphing in their most recent meeting during the China Open semi-finals last year.
The husband-and-wife duo booked their place in the last eight by overcoming India's world No. 34 K. Satish Kumar-Aadya Variyath, 21-10, 21-17 on Thursday.
Shevon said she and Soon Huat must be at their best against Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi.
"We beat them at the China Open, so there's a positive vibe, but every court and condition is different. We will do our best tomorrow," Shevon said.
"We need to be physically and mentally prepared, and play consistently. To challenge them, we have to be at our best.
"They're catching up with the other Chinese pairs. In terms of power and speed, they are on par with China's top two pairs."
Shevon also revealed she is still recovering from the flu.
"In the last few days, I was unwell, but today I felt better," she added.
