KUALA LUMPUR: Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) is no longer in the international wilderness. Malaysia's most famous cycling race has pedalled its way back into the International Cycling Union (UCI)
UCI agreed yesterday to reinstate LTdL - to be held from Sept 23-30 - in its calendar after removing the race last week.
This was confirmed by Malaysian National Cycling Federation vice president Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, who is also in the UCI management committee.
"I'm relieved with the reinstatement of LTdL as it involves the good name of Malaysia and the international cycling community.
"There was a heavy responsibility on my shoulders that it's done and thankfully it's sorted out now."
Amarjit said he held a private meeting wirh UCI sports director Peter van de Abelle in Glasgow where he impressed upon him that LTdL must be reinstated immediately.
Amarjit also showed the UCI proof of payment made by the previous organisers of LTdL, Human Voyage, to several teams that had complained to the world body of the non-payment of appearance fees and other expenses.
