PETALING JAYA: FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal fully supports Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin for the FA of Malaysia’s top post.
He said Hamidin, who served as FA of Selangor (FAS) secretary-general from 1998 to 2013, is the best choice to succeed FAM president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
“As the president of FAS, I believe Hamidin is the best candidate. It’s a great recognition when TMJ chose Hamidin as his successor.
“No one else knows Malaysian football as much as Hamidin,” said Subahan after an FAM exco meeting today.
Subahan’s support for Hamidin has put to rest speculation that he may stand for the FAM president’s post.
Subahan, who got the highest votes (37) in the election for the FAM deputy president’s post last year, has acted professionally in making way for FAM deputy president Datuk Yusoff Mahadi to be the acting president following the exco’s acceptance of Tunku Ismail’s resignation today.
“Congratulation to Yusoff. I, as the (FAM) deputy president and FA of Selangor president, fully support him to be the acting president (till the FAM congress on July 14.”
Subahan revealed that he was not keen to be FAM president as he already has other major responsibilities, being the president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederations.
He said what is important is that there is agreement among the FAM exco.
Under FAM’s constitution, any Malaysian can stand for the president’s post provided that he or she is a member of FAM’s affiliates. The nominations of candidates for the FAM presidency are open from today till May 11.
