KUALA LUMPUR: It will not be a walk in the park for Liridon Krasniqi at Johor Darul Ta’zim (KDT) in his hopes of playing regular football for the reigning Super League Champions.
With so many talented midfielders at JDT, the naturalised player cannot afford an off day in training as if he does not perform, he could see himself falling down the pecking order.
However, the Kosova-born, who was granted Malaysian citizenship on Feb 3, is focused on fighting for his place and sees the competition in the team as healthy.
He believes that his inclusion will further strengthen JDT for the new season.
Krasniqi, 28, however, hopes to play a part for the former AFC Cup champions when they take on Kedah in Friday’s Charity Shield match at the newly-built Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri.
“I am up for this exciting challenge with my new club. I have to give my 100 per cent in training as the competition for spots is intense.
“I will do my best to impress coach Benjamin Mora for a regular spot.
“Midfielders like Hariss Harin, Afiq Fazail and Spanish-born Natxo Insa are among the best and they are exceptional players.
“JDT are a complete side. Everyone has quality. JDT can even afford to rest their regulars and still get results with their fringe players.”
Krasniqi, who first made his name with Kedah between 2015-18, said he has already adapted with JDT’s philosophy and style of play, and is now raring for action.
“All of us go through high-intensity training during practice, and we always learn something new from the coaches. JDT have done their homework and are ready to face Kedah on Friday.
“I do not want to think about Kedah as I prefer to focus on my preparation with JDT. I will be ready to don JDT colours if given a chance on Friday.
“Kedah are a good side and they have the quality to trouble us. However, we will do our best to win the Charity Shield,” Krasniqi added.
