PJ City FC, who are committed to an all local cast for next season's Super League, have announced Darren Lok as their latest signing.
Ex-Terengganu player Lok will fill the shoes of former national striker, Safee Sali.
He is one of the six new signings by PJ City who have retained 16 players from this season, including captain K. Gurusamy.
Although Lok will miss AFC Cup action next year with Terengganu, he feels his stock will rise with the Phoenix, a team, whose philosophy appeals to him.
"I heard it will be all locals... so that appeals to me.. I've seen the drive, the quality. Sometimes when foreigners are brought in, the locals don't get to play as much especially as strikers," he said.
"So, this suits me well. But it's not going to be easy because we have to run faster, work harder but I am excited with the challenges and everything I've seen so far has been excellent."
PJ City president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal also disclosed that Ahmad Khairil Anuar Zamri will join PJ City after having spent his career with Perak since 2015.
"The list isn't completed yet but we will make our announcement in due time.
"This will be an exciting team because we are also introducing players from the President's Cup and the Youth Cup.
"We are convinced these players should be given a chance and we want to give them as much playing time as possible," said Subahan.
PJ captain Gurusamy said: "We appreciate that local players are being given the chance to play and improve in PJ City.
"But we must deliver good results and have a style of football."
Among the PJ City players retained are Mahalli Jasuli, Salamon Raj, Kalamullah Al Hafiz Mat Rowi, Kogileswaran Raj and Damien Lim.
