FAM to continue with poor Project boys

DESPITE their horrible results, the FAM-NSC Project boys will be allowed to play on next year.

FAM have confirmed that the FAM-NSC squad will compete in next season's Premier League.

FAM are not discouraged though the squad finished at the bottom of the second-tier Premier League this year.

The Project squad, comprising national Under-19 players, collected only six points from 20 league games, and winning one match.

FAM secretary general Saifuddin Abu Bakar said 17 players have been retained for the new season.

"They will participate in the new Premier League season with the same coaching staff."

He said FAM will add 10 more players from the Mokhtar Dahari Academy (AMD) to the squad.

According to Saifuddin, there are no issues on national Under-19 players being loaned to other M-League teams during the transfer window.

He said there is no such thing as a "loan ban" on the national Under-19 players, and they can go to any clubs.

"But for those under the age of 18, they will need to get parental consent," he added.

Saifuddin said since the players are under AMD, which is under the National Sports Council, they are considered "underage" and hence do not come under the transfer category.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Yusri Che Lah will no longer coach the FAM-NSC squad, and is close to joining Perak as their trainer.

Perak, relegated to the Premier League for the first time since 1990, performed badly this season with only four wins and four draws from 22 Super League matches.
