KUALA LUMPUR: Penang were held to a 1-1 draw by Melaka United in today's Super League clash at City Stadium in George Town.
Despite fielding only one import in Rafael Vitor, the Panthers dominated play but lacked the cutting edge to win the match.
Penang took the lead through Danial Ashraf Abdullah, who collected a Faiz Mazlan defence-splitting pass before scoring past Melaka goalkeeper Norazlan Razali in the 27th minute.
Stunned by the goal, Melaka doubled their efforts and pressed forward for a goal.
And they were rewarded in the 41st minute when Penang captain Abdul Latif Suhaimi deflected Ahmad Haziq Puad's header into his own goal.
In the second half, both teams pressed hard for the winner but were let down by poor finishing.
