KUALA LUMPUR: PJ City FC, the only all local outfit in the Super League, will don their new kits when they meet Terengganu at the MBPJ Stadium on Wednesday.
Taking inspiration from the previous season's colours of sky blue for the home kit and vibrant red for away kit, PJ City aim to continue their trailblazing ways in Malaysian football.
The Phoenix, who got promoted to the Super League in 2019, have been banking on an all local line-up since last year while all their rivals are enamoured with foreign players.
And they did well to finish a creditable seventh out of 12 teams ahead of established sides like Melaka United, Sri Pahang and Perak last season.
For this year, PJ City aim to continue shining and provide players to the national team despite being newcomers to the top flight.
PJ City's striker Darren Lok, midfielder M. Kogileswaran Raj and goalkeeper Kalamullah Al-Hafiz had received call-ups to the Harimau Malaya squad recently.
PJ City president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said today he hopes the new kits will spur the players further this season.
"We are still new to the Super League but I believe we are doing quite well with several of our players getting a national call-up," said Subahan after the launch at MBPJ Stadium today.
"We don't just want to win, we also want to produce players who represent the national team."
PJ City, who adopted the MBPJ Stadium as their home ground, have pumped in RM2.7 million through their owner, Datuk Seri Vijay Eswaran, for a major facelift.
"We want to entice and inspire the youths to excel in sports and promote unity within our diverse PJ community. The renovations and facelifts to the stadium include a new track and field, and locker rooms for the players," said Vijay who is also chairman of the Qi Group, the title sponsor of the PJ City team.
"We relaid the field with new turf and it's in excellent shape now. The Malaysian Football League and MBPJ have given their thumbs-up for the overall renovation works."
