KUALA LUMPUR: England-based footballer Jaami Qureshi, 18, seems to have decided to play for Malaysia after all.
The Iraqi-Malaysian was spotted at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya yesterday, sparking speculation that he is ready to join the national team.
It is learnt that the left-winger was there to meet with officials from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). Presumably, the talks were about his move from England to Malaysia.
Jaami, who is eligible to represent Iraq, England and Malaysia, was initially linked with Iraq after his father, Perviz Qureshi, claimed that talks with FAM had broken down last year.
In January, FAM revealed that Perviz wanted his son to be granted Malaysian citizenship without having to go through the technical evaluation process.
FAM had insisted that Jaami must be present physically for the process of applying for Malaysian citizenship. And his presence at Kelana Jaya yesterday indicates that he has opted to represent Malaysia.
Jaami, who has been released by EPL club Brighton & Hove Albion, is linked with Tan Sri Vincent Tan's Cardiff City.
