Terengganu book AFC Cup ticket

KUALA LUMPUR: The Super League ended yesterday with Terengganu the happiest team of all.

While Johor Darul Ta'zim were confirmed as league champions a week ago, Terengganu won second place in the league, after beating Kedah 3-1 at Darulaman Stadium, and it came with a ticket to the AFC Cup.

Faisal Halim started fast for the Turtles with a fourth minute goal, and Kipre Tchetche struck in 18th and 74th minutes. Kedah's consolation goal came in the 88th minute through Dechi marcel N'Guessan.

Sabah, who started the day in second place, a point ahead of Terengganu, lost 3-0 to JDT away.

The Rhinos had needed a win aginst JDT to keep their hopes of qualifying for the AFC Cup alive, but the Southern Tigers simply swept them aside with goals from Bergson Da Silva (17th and 55th minutes) and Arif Aiman Hanapi (39th).

Sabah ended third overall, but their hopes of qualifying for the AFC Cup depends on JDT. Should the Southern Tigers achieve a treble by winning the Malaysia Cup, the second AFC Cup berth will go to the league's third-placed team, that is Sabah.

However, if JDT fail to land the Malaysia Cup, Sabah will have to win it to be eligible for the AFC Cup.

Negri Sembilan's hopes of finishing in the top three took a blow after a 2-0 loss to hosts Sri Pahang and they ended up fourth.
