KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur FA (KLFA) president Khalid Abdul Samad will not resign despite calls from several parties to do so.
Khalid will only leave if he secures long-term funding for KL City, who will play Oman's Al Seeb in the AFC Cup final on Saturday.
Several parties, who are indirectly involved in the team, have proposed the sacking of KL City CEO Stanley Bernard. If Stanley goes, coach Bojan Hodak will resign, and Khalid does not want this to happen.
"It is challenging to take KL City far without proper support from traditional sponsors. I had to borrow money from individuals and institutions to pay the salaries of officials, players and coaches," said Khalid in a press conference here today.
"Although they want me to resign, I will stay on. I am aware of the consequences if I step down. These people just want to use the club for their personal agendas.
"KL City are managed by professionals. And they showed us the way with the club winning the Malaysia Cup title last season after 32 years. The club are also in the AFC Cup final despite the odds."
