KUALA LUMPUR: Al Seeb became the first Omani club to lift the AFC Cup when they defeated KL City 3-0 in the final at National Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.
KL, however, should not be disheartened by the defeat, as they were the underdogs and were not among the favourites to reach the final.
With the win, Al Seeb achieved a quadruple this season after their victories in the Oman Professional League, the Omanian Cup and the Omanian Supercup.
In front of 27, 722 fans, Al Seeb, who had eight Omani national players in the lineup, opened the scoring through Ali Sulaiman Al-Busaidi in the 22nd minute straight from a corner kick.
Abdul Aziz Humaid Al Maqbali doubled their lead in the 37th minute when he headed home a cross.
Defender Yousuf Nashr Al-Malki scored the third goal in the 69th minute.
Al Seeb earned US$1.5million (RM7.02 million) as champions, while KL received US$750,000 (RM3.5 million).
