KUALA LUMPUR: Former national Under-23 footballer Annil Vigneswaran has signed a one-year contract with German Division Three club, SV Waldhof Mannheim 07.
The 20-year-old midfielder is set to turn out for Mannheim's Under-21 side.
"I feel great (to sign for Mannheim). I have made sacrifices for this signing and I was close to giving up," said Annil.
"With the right support and the right people, I was able to push myself. My dad has supported me through everything," he said.
Annil had previously played for anther German third division side, SV Sandhausen. He was also with SGV Freiberg and Freiburger FC earlier.
Annil was a member of the national youth team under coach Brad Maloney for the Under-23 Asian Cup qualifiers in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in 2021.
When asked whether he wished to rejoin the national Under-23 team, Annil said: "If I get a call-up, I will be happy but if not, then it's not an issue."
