BUKIT JALIL: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) equalled Kedah's double treble achievement when they edged Terengganu 3-1 in the Malaysia Cup final today to retain their title at National Stadium here.
JDT, who also retained their Super League and FA Cup crowns this year, equalled Kedah's double treble in the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 seasons.
Playing in front of 80,000-odd fans, JDT and Terengganu could not showcase their best game due to the poor condition of the pitch, which had visible patches.
Bergson da Silva scored JDT's first goal when he converted from the penalty spot in the sixth minute.
Earlier, Terengganu players were unhappy with referee S. Logeswaran, claiming he had awarded a "cheap" penalty for a soft challenge on Fernando Forestieri inside the box.
However, Terengganu equalised when they were awarded a penalty in the 21st minute.
Ivan Mamut stepped up and made no mistakes from the spot.
Substitute Feroz Baharuddin rose high to head home JDT's second goal in the
73rd minute.
Arif Aiman Hanapi made sure of JDT's victory when he converted from the spot kick in stoppage time.
"I dreamed last night that I would score a goal in the final, and I did it today.
"Thank you for giving me a chance to play in the final," said Feroz.
